So this morning I went seining for the first time. For those of you who have no idea what that is, it is where we get our waders on and go out at low tide with a long net (there are lead weights on one side and floaters on the other side) and pull the net out, circle it around, and pull it up to the beach to catch whatever is out there. We caught a ton of sculpin, lots of shrimp, a few dolly varden, pipefish, crabs, and I added some urchins and seastars (I like the invertebrates more). We left from our science building at 5 AM! It was pitch dark as we walked through the woods to get to Bridget Cove. Our lab assistant, Court, was smart enough to bring some pump up music to keep us all awake! While we were out, we even saw some whales in the distance! Overall we did four seines and wrapped up in about an hour and a half. I was able to get home by 8 and get a nap in before I actually started my day!
