I'm back from Sitka. Whalefest was a blast! I helped with a necropsy of an elephant seal! A necropsy is a fancy word for an autopsy on an animal, so I got to watch someone cut a seal open and help out! I was so blessed to be able to attend this conference. I got to meet all the speakers and ask them questions about their research, one of them even offered to help me find research opportunities in Hawaii! In science, it really is all about who you know, not what you know! On the last day of the conference, we all went on a whale watch and saw tons of humpback whales! And it was a perfect day too! The sun was poking through the rain-free clouds and it wasn't that cold either, although it had snowed up on the mountain tops to give the mountains a picturesque snow-covered top.
