What a great start to my Valentine's day! I've been particularly busy this weekend writing essays and research proposals for class and summer internship applications. It is hard work telling someone who has never met you why they would want to work with me! Anyway, a few days ago, I attended a lecture hosted by the Juneau Audubon Society. The speaker presented on the beauty of the whales that will be coming back from Hawaii soon. At the end, there was talk about the Great Backyard Bird Count, which just happened to be this weekend. I didn't think I would be able to contribute anything because I knew how busy my weekend was looking, but by pure luck, I saw something you would only see in Alaska.
I was sitting in my room, and just happened to look up at the exact moment a big bald eagle landed in a tree outside my window! I watched the eagle for about 15 minutes and submitted my watch to the backyard bird count on their website. I'm so glad that even in my busy times, I was able to participate in something so important! And look at the awesome picture I took through my bedroom window! You can even see how sharp that beak looks and those deturmined eyes looking for its next meal!
