After the end of our scheduled course, a friend and I were flying out of San Juan airport so we had to rent a car to make the journey to the north side of the island (we had been exploring the southwest area of the island). We picked up two other classmates for the adventure. Keeping in mind we picked up the car at 5:30 in the morning, I made a wrong turn or two (no big deal because we weren't really following a map), but we ended up on a road that took us northwest instead of northeast and this road was narrow, windy and took us through the rainforest! It was a fun "mistake" (compared to going the route of the highway).
We finally ended up in San Juan at around 10am and we weren't able to check into our hotel until 2pm. So with four hours to kill, we ended up finding a beach to sleep on! We also drove through Old San Juan and decided to come back later that night to check out the night life! At around sunset, we headed toward the old castles and went "castle jumping." One thing I love about San Juan (and Puerto Rico in general) is the amazing colors that buildings are painted. The architecture is so simple but the colors make the city so pretty!
