After finishing my first year of grad school, it is finally time to board the plane to Africa to start a full summer of research. As per usual, I started packing my bag the night before my flight, luckily my dive bag was mostly packed! Therefore I had already packed the essentials... I didn't finish packing my clothes until about 10 minutes before I had to leave for the airport. All in all, everything fit with wiggle room to spare!
When I got to the airport, I was informed that I received some looks from those around me as I wore both backpacks, carried my daypack and rolled my dive bag behind me. Clearly those people had never been ready for an adventure of my nature. The final weigh in of my dive bag came to 51lbs, but thankfully the agent was feeling nice and let it slide. Made it through TSA Checkpoint and to my gate with plenty of time to spare and think about the months to come.
I won't have cell service for the entire summer. I'll be keeping in contact via WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. I'm not sure exactly what kind of access I'll have to wifi, but I'll try to update as often as I can with how research is going and exciting adventures to share. More to come!
